The sky seems to be melting... a bit like a rainbow mixed with clouds. Do penguins notice these pastel colors churning above them?

It might not be much to look at, but this was first time I'd seen the sun since April 24th !!

Each day the sun climbs higher; Lengthened day erodes my night...

Not so long ago- eternal darkness... moon, and stars... auroral light.

    Ask and you shall receive...

It doesn't always work, but I asked for more auroras before the sun came up, and I got both within 24 hours!!

Some things in life are worth consciously waiting for, while others just happen to present themselves if you're lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. I think Antarctic Auroras fall into the second category for me...

I find it odd that I gravitate towards the new and the very old; yet somewhere in the transition ideas loose importance, and stuff becomes trash...

This one reminds me of a water color in a little kids story book... maybe one about far away land, where a beautiful princess patiently waits in a small hut at the base of a frozen volcano!

No, the sun isn't back yet, this was actually taken a little over two months ago before the last sunset.

The solstice was yesterday though, so the next sunrise is only a few months away!

A view of McMurdo from the sky.

frozen, melted, and then frozen again.

    All just water.

About Me
about us imageI'm currently working for the US Antarctic Program on Ross Island, which is about 40 miles of off the coast of Antarctica.

I'm still trying to figure out if this is a year of work, or vacation for a year... that probably means I'm in the right place, yea?
